7 Steps towards good governance of diversity

The ICLS trains young intercultural leaders and through them create lasting local networks of intercultural communication and cooperation (Networks of Trust) in cities of diversity. Such development of intercultural leadership is designed to contribute to good governance of ethnic, religious and cultural diversity. The process can be briefly summarised in the following steps:

1 - The ICLS goes to cities and regions of significant religious, ethnic or cultural diversity;

2 - Potential local partners from different backgrounds are asked whether the ICLS methodology could be of help to local diversity, and if they are prepared to commit themselves fully, investing time, energy and resources in setting up and sustaining a joint project;

3 – If the answer to both questions is yes, the ICLS will establish a local partnership and joint ownership with institutions and/or personalities from different local backgrounds;

4 – Young male and female adults, who reflect local diversity, are jointly selected;

5 – Participatory and highly interactive intercultural communication and leadership seminars are held with the selected young adults;

6 – A local Network of Trust is formed by the participants of these seminars, which aims at sustaining ongoing work as well as supporting the rise of a new generation of intercultural leadership in the city or the region;

7 – All local Networks of Trust are linked internationally through the ICLS.
